General
RexyView is a free media player app for Apple devices that connects to your personal media server. It gives you a beautiful, fast way to browse and play your own movie and TV collection across iPhone, iPad, Apple TV, Mac, and Vision Pro.
Yes — completely free. Every feature, every platform. No subscription, no paywall, no ads, no in-app purchases required. If you want to support development, an optional tip jar is available inside the app via Apple In-App Purchase — but it will never be required to access any feature.
No. RexyView is an independent application and is not affiliated with, endorsed by, or in any way officially connected to Plex, Inc. RexyView uses Plex's publicly available API to communicate with a Plex Media Server that you own and operate. Plex™ and Plex Media Server™ are trademarks of Plex, Inc. All trademarks belong to their respective owners.
Getting Started
RexyView requires three things: (1) a Plex Media Server installed and running on a computer, NAS, or home server, (2) a free Plex account to sign in, and (3) an Apple device running RexyView. RexyView is the client — Plex Media Server is the engine that serves your content. RexyView is not affiliated with Plex, Inc.
Plex Media Server is a free application made by Plex, Inc. that you install on your own computer or NAS. It organizes your personal movie, TV, and music collection and makes it available to stream on your devices. Think of it as your own private streaming service built from files you already own. RexyView connects to your Plex Media Server to give you a better way to browse and play that content. RexyView is not made by or affiliated with Plex, Inc.
No. RexyView itself is completely free and does not require Plex Pass. However, some features depend on Plex Pass — a separate paid subscription sold by Plex, Inc. — including offline downloads and multiple user profiles. If you want those server-side features you can purchase Plex Pass directly from Plex, Inc. RexyView has no involvement in that transaction and receives no part of it.
Yes — as long as your Plex Media Server has remote access enabled in its settings, RexyView can connect from anywhere over the internet. Plex handles the remote connection automatically in most cases. Remote access is a feature of Plex Media Server and is managed entirely through Plex, not RexyView.
Features
Offline downloads let you save movies and episodes directly to your device so you can watch them without an internet connection. Downloads are organized by show and season in the Downloads tab. You can set a preferred quality level and optionally auto-delete content after watching. Note: download capability may depend on your media server subscription level.
Actor images show circular headshots next to cast member names on movie and show detail pages. They are turned off by default. In Settings you can enable them and choose your preferred image source. Instructions are in the Settings screen.
Ratings and metadata are sourced from your Plex Media Server's metadata agents. If a title is missing information it usually means Plex hasn't matched it yet. You can fix this in the Plex web interface by manually matching the item to the correct entry. RexyView displays whatever metadata your Plex server provides — it does not independently fetch or modify metadata.
Platforms
Yes — RexyView is a single free download and runs on iPhone, iPad, Apple TV, Mac, Vision Pro, and Apple Watch. You do not need to get it separately for each device. Sign in with the same Apple ID and it is available everywhere. RexyView is currently in public beta — join via TestFlight to try it today.
The Apple TV version has all the same core features, with a completely custom interface designed for the TV. The settings experience uses a two-column layout optimized for the Siri Remote. Downloads are not available on Apple TV as tvOS does not support local file storage in the same way.
Privacy
Very little. RexyView stores your app preferences locally on your device. It communicates with your own media server to fetch your library content — that data never passes through RexyView's servers. We do not collect analytics, sell data, or track your viewing habits. See our full Privacy Policy for details.
Authentication tokens are stored securely in your device's Keychain — the same secure storage used by Apple's own apps. RexyView never stores your account password. You can sign out at any time from Settings, which removes all stored credentials from the device.
